Patriot Thomas Fitzsimmons-1-29-2011-There Is Reason To Hope! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

My fellow citizens:

I would like to take this time to encourage every one of you to not look at our President or any man for the answers that we need in this nation!

Now, we realize that we have some major problems in our nation, this is understood! With the November election now history, we must look to the future with an understanding that a corner has been turned in our history! WE THE PEOPLE have stood up again! WE THE PEOPLE have been awakened again, by the election of our president and his policies that really go against the will of WE THE PEOPLE.

We are in a troubling time, no doubt, but there is reason to hope! All we have to do is to look back to the time when we had no government, but had achieved our independence from Great Britton.

It was June 1787, the history books tell us that the Constitutional Convention had been meeting for weeks, with no results, embroiled in bitter debate, some delegates left the over how each state (smaller states against the larger ones) would be represented in this new never before existing type of government!

Then at 81 years of age, Benjamin Franklin, the senior most delegates at the convention, gave a speech that to our delight, future president James Madison wrote down!

In this speech, and I will not go through it all, but Mr. Franklin reminds everyone present that when the “Contest” with Great Britton started and they were “sensible of danger”, they had daily prayer for “Devine Protection” He goes on to say that not only were their prayers heard, but as he put it, “were graciously answered”. He doesn’t stop there though; he states that “All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed instances of a superintending Providence in our favor!” In other words, you could see God doing specific things that brought about the victory!!

He goes on to say, “To that kind Providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our “future national felicity” And have we now forgotten that Powerful Friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance?

He goes on to say that he has lived a long time and he has seen this truth – that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, Is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?

Then Mr. Franklin says that he believes that prayer “imploring the assistance of heaven and blessing their deliberations” ……….. Let me ask you this, did God hear and answer their prayer?

Well, my fellow citizens, I say to you again do not look to our president, but look to the God of answered prayer for our help!

Psalms 86:8-10 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works. All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.

We need to pray, call our congressmen and women and senators encouraging them and each other to do right and believe God to move again and heal our land!

We have work to do, do not give up – we must preserver!

Looking at the signers of the Constitution, who will be the next Roger Sherman of Ct. or James Madison of Va. Or Benjamin Franklin or Thomas Fitzsimmons of Pa. – oh, that would be me!
