 Stampeded

Last year the North Carolina legislature passed, and Republican Governor Pat McCrory signed, a law requiring people to use the bathroom of their real gender in public places.  HB 2, or the “Bathroom Bill,” as it was called in the media, was a correction of the immoral and addle-pated laws passed in two liberal cities in North Carolina, that would have allowed men to use the ladies’ room. The reaction from the loony left was immediate and severe.

The National Basketball Association moved their All-Star Game out of North Carolina, and the Atlantic Coast Conference followed suit, moving their championship to another state.  Corporations cancelled their meetings and conventions, and it was predicted by liberals all over America that HB 2 would be the economic ruin of North Carolina.

Democrats in North Carolina, with the help of the liberal lap-dog media, used scare tactics to stampede the people and unseat the Republican governor and replace him with their own l leftist totalitarian.  After all, North Carolina needed to be saved from the terrible extremists who believed that people ought to use the bathroom that corresponds with their anatomy.

So what has been the result of all this controversy?  Was North Carolina actually ruined?  Did the Bathroom Bill flush the North Carolina economy?

Quite to the contrary, North Carolina continues to be an economic heavyweight.  Forbes magazine named the state number two in the nation for doing business.  Site Selection magazine said North Carolina is fourth in the nation for attracting new business or expanding existing business.  The unemployment rate, which was supposed to skyrocket, has remained at a stable 5.3 percent.  And get this: hotel occupancy has blown away previous records.

So successful has North Carolina become that now 13 more states are considering a Bathroom Bill based on that of North Carolina.  Looks like morality can be good for business.

Meanwhile, the NBA, which pulled its All Star Game, sold the fewest number of tickets in the history of that event.  Same for the ACC championship game, which almost couldn’t give away tickets.

By the way, Target, which made a big deal of announcing its trendy policy of allowing men in ladies’ bathrooms, has become a company drowning in red ink.  While their competitors are on an upswing, shares in Target stock are down as much as 35 percent.

Interestingly, Target officials refuse to admit that their loony-leftist bathroom policy has made any difference. However, the evidence is clear.  Target was at its height the day they announced the new, trendy, enlightened, bathroom policy.  It’s been all downhill ever since.

Now what is the lesson in all this?  Don’t ever let liberals stampede you with their scare tactics.  They make a lot of noise, but it’s just noise.  Do right, and stay the course.  When the noise dies down, and it will, you will be on the winning side.
