Forty eight hours after taking office, President Obama issued a directive PDF Print
Forty eight hours after taking office, President Obama issued a directive ordering CIA government intelligence agencies to follow only interrogation techniques specified in Army field manuals.  This order has made the job of gaining valuable and timely intelligence much harder.  It is also accountable for risking more frequent terrorist attacks on a greater magnitude scale than the attack on the World Trade Centers.

In fact, the latest attacks that were destined to blow up at least two air liners ware only thwarted while the aircraft were already in route to Chicago.  This was a close escape from a tragic set of circumstances and too close to a successful terrorist attack. This latest terrorist fiasco has the ear marks of a President and a Home Land Security Director in a national security learning mode since taking office.

The blame for this  intelligence disconnect began when Obama  lowered the bar for producing intelligence on the ground at the sources of terrorism.  Although he has allowed for drone surveillance and attacks, there is really no substitute for discovering and thwarting the terrorist in their own lairs.  Agents active on the ground can uncover terrorist plots before execution, preventing  serious attacks.

To Obama’s credit, he has not fulfilled a campaign promise to end monitoring of terrorist communications.  This technique was a major source of intelligence gathering. However, the terrorists have apparently become wise and are limiting their transmissions, diminishing this source to a great extent.    But, don‘t take my word for these conclusions.  These reports also refute claims by the left news media that interrogation using cruel measures torture are not cruel, but tough and produce sorely needed and invaluable intelligence.  A case in point is that of Khaled Sheik Mohammad, the master of mind of the 9/11 attacks, killing 3000 Americans.  At the time of his capture on the ground, he was planning to hijack and employing suicide bombers, blow up as many as 20 air liners, simultaneously, while flying over the ocean.  Initially, he had resisted interrogation.  But, when sound and effective techniques were employed, he spilled his guts.  Thus, a major terrorist attack was foiled using a proactive and very effective  methods, the exact opposite of reactive security.

Also, minimizing the affects of interrogation of Guantanamo detainees has reduced the effectiveness of this source of intelligence information.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department has threatened prosecution of CIA agents for war crimes.  This has become another deterrent to getting the intelligence that is needed to prevent attacks.

In effect, the President‘s policies amount to a clash between ideals and real and effective security.  The Constitution  prohibits “adhering to their Enemies, giving them (Aid nd) Comfort.  have violated Article III, Section 3 in giving them aid and0 comfort.  It is high time the American public insist  on proactive intelligence the similar to that  employed by the Bush Administration following 9/ll.  It is not a stretch to recognize that failure to adopt tougher security invites a dreaded an attack by Al Queada or the Islamic-Fascist radical terrorist movements on a major city target.  The public should understand these terrorist movements want to kill all Americans, not simply a hand full at a time.

The Constitution in Article III, Section 3, makes the case for the Congress to have the power to declare the Punishment of Treason against the United States for  “adhering to their Enemies, giving them (Aid and) Comfort0 IS A  treasonable act.  There may be a  a thin  dividing line between treason and idealistic incompetence. Is it possible his directives may have deliberately  and foolishly for the purpose of political gain have diminished  the ability for achieving  interrogations vital to our national security?   It may also be a treasonable offense if the release known enemy terrorists prisoners that may resume their terrorist activities can be proven to cause more  American deaths.

Next year, there will be a new and promising change in the Congress.  Let’s write to members of this body and insist a return to common sense proactive on the ground CIA war to prevent terrorist attacks.
