The Common Sense Campaign is a grassroots political movement and not a political party. The primary goal of The Common Sense Campaign is to restore our Constitutional Republic “of the people, by the people, and for the people”.Our Federal Government has usurped and expanded powers well beyond that intended by the Constitution. This unfettered concentration of power threatens the exercise of our God given rights and jeopardizes self-government. Entrenched politicians and unaccountable bureaucracies are hostage to special interests. The unfathomable amount of money flowing through Washington has corrupted the system so that any public purpose is lost in the perpetual quest to retain power. The current government is essentially an oligarchy unresponsive to the people and unable or unwilling to correct itself. Therefore, the people must rescind their consent to be governed and reclaim the power of self-government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
The Common Sense Campaign seeks to freely assemble all like-minded citizens into a voting block to support candidates at every level across the country that pledge to uphold our core principles and pursue our stated agenda. The members of the Common Sense Campaign shall also withhold their votes should no candidate in a particular race pledge support. The primary goal is a wholesale across the board removal of self-serving politicians and election of a new majority of citizens to represent the will of the people.
Our Mission
The Common Sense Campaign will establish councils in every state, districts in every congressional district, and chapters in every county. Each chapter shall strive to enlist at least 10% of the registered voters in their respective counties. All members and affiliates of The Common Sense Campaign shall pledge to support only candidates that take The Common Sense Campaign Pledge. Each state organization will ask all candidates running for Congress starting in the primaries to sign a pledge to support and advance the core principles and the agenda of The Common Sense Campaign.
The strategy hinges on the ability to deliver or deny 10% or more of the electorate in every election. Since most elections are decided by less than a 10% margin, it is reasonable to expect candidates will give due deference to The Common Sense Campaign in every district where minimum membership is achieved. This endeavor will require a robust effort in every state, but with even modest success, The Common Sense Campaign can expect to be a relevant if not decisive factor in the majority of primary races and at least half of the congressional races.
Core Principles
1. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
2. Life and liberty are sacred; and the earthly pursuit of happiness is and has been best served by a system of free markets and capitalism.
3. The cornerstone of American self-government is the consent of the people to be governed. The weight of individual votes shall not be undermined by subversive interests or the tyranny of entrenched incumbents.
4. The First Amendment to the Constitution must be reaffirmed and restored in its entirety. While government shall not endorse any particular religion, neither shall it prohibit nor restrict the private or public exercise thereof.
5. The Second Amendment to the Constitution must be reaffirmed in its entirety. The right to bear arms applies to the people.
6. The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution must be reaffirmed and restored. The Federal Government should retreat to its originally intended limited roles, recognize and respect the sovereignty of the states and the rightful power of the people.
Agenda
1. Establish term limits for members of Congress; the tyranny of incumbency must be ended.
2. Limit the Federal Government to constitutional roles according to the Tenth Amendment.
3. Establish budget practices that severely limit deficit spending.
4. Reform, reduce, or eliminate all forms of direct taxation on the people by the Federal Government.
5. Audit the Federal Reserve.
6. Reaffirm free market principles and preserve private property rights by opposing nationalization of any industry.
7. Allow states to reform healthcare through oversight and regulation.
8. Maintain a strong national defense that includes controlling our borders.
9. Cease using tax payer monies to fund public and private entities that lobby on behalf of special interests or campaign for candidates.
